Replica of Central Pacific "Jupiter" Engine No. 60 (1869)


Union Pacific and Central Pacific meet May 10, 1869
It took six years to lay the 1,776 total miles (2,858.195 km) of track, 690 miles (1,110.45 km) by the Central Pacific and 1,086 miles (1747.748 km) by the Union Pacific.

Engineer's George Booth engine 60 and Sam Bradford engine 119 each broke a bottle of campagne upon the other's locomotive during the original meeting in 1869. (Photographer Andrew J. Russell)
