As the newest town in Washington County Apple Valley was incorporated Oct 14, 2004. It is located in a small valley on the Little Plains about 12 miles East of Hurricane. The drive on Hwy 59 is a 2,000 ft climb 4,700 ft. The scenery is great with Zion National Park in the background and Mount Smithsonian, Canaan Mountain and Little Creek Mesa framing the area. The temperature is about 10 degrees cooler than Hurricane and St. George year round.
Apple Valley has about 200 homes and is still growing at about 10 new homes per year. The homes range from single wide trailers to the well built and spacious. All the home lots are one acre in size and zoned for horses. Several residents have horses, chickens and other critters.
Several water companies serve the town by pumping water from wells daily to large tanks. Homes are heated with propane or electricity. TV comes from Satellite Dishes unless you live on top of the Mesa and have a tall antenna. The phone company is South Central and all calls to Hurricane are long distance. Calls to Colorado City, Arizona, are local. But most residents do business in Hurricane or St. George.
There is a Chevron station and a fire department. Other than in-home businesses Schwan's and UPS are the only business conducted here.
