Religion has played and still does play a major role in the state of Utah. Indeed
it was a search for freedom of Religion and the escape from persecution in the east that brought the Latter-Day Saint Pioneers a
thousand miles across the plains finally to settle in the desert valley
of the Great Salt Lake.
The LDS Faith remains the dominant religious group in Utah. According to the 2020 count, Utah is now 51 percent LDS. See: The Salt Lake Tribune.
Denominations of every kind are well established throughout the state. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints lists 2,126,216 members of record, the Catholic church 160,125, and the Southern Baptist Convention 12,593.
