AURORA Aurora (Sevier) is west of the Sevier River on U-256, four miles southwest of Salina. It was firest settled in 1875 by people from Provo. An earlier name was Willow Bend because it was on a bend of the Sevier River which was heavily overgrown with willows. The post office rejected the name because they felt the name "willow" was being overused. Numan Van Louvan suggested the name Aurora because of the colorful tints of the surrounding hills-it reminded him of the Roman goddess of the dawn. The name change was made on August 2, 1897, and Van Louvan was subsequently made the postmaster. John W. Van Cott |
