Bonanza (Uintah) was forty miles southeast of Jensen on U-45. Byron Colton believed his claim on the gilsonite vein there would develop into a very rich strike. Gilsonite is a natural asphalt found only in this area. "Bonanza" is the spanish word for prosperity, a rich strike, or boom. Bonanza was established in 1888.
